The penny rug class was a great success....a few pictures to share.

and no Roxie wasn't being anti social, she moved over by the door for the natural light!

Two of the gals took home a finished rug and the others were well on their way. I never realized there were so many ways to do a blanket stitch and still come out with the wanted results! A few moments of confusion here and there with that but otherwise.....it was a perfect day!

This group managed to convince me to do another class next month and seven of the ten spots are spoken for....I will however schedule a second class if needed. I've decided on a wool Easter Egg mini pillow. I will work on the pattern and sample tomorrow and will share the picture and additional class info with you very soon. I can't wait to get started on it!

"Don't sweat the small stuff"

My words for Monday....five small words, but oh so big. For those of you who know me well at all, I'm sure as you read this you'll be shaking your head, amazed that I would be suggesting to anyone this phrase. To those of you who don't know me so well....I'll just say that I'm sweating as I type this post, worrying that I won't do it just right. I'm the one who makes sure the hand towels in all the bathrooms hang evenly, that the pillows on the beds are arranged just so and heaven forbid there be something moldy in the refrigerator.

I think you probably get the picture...and speaking of pictures, no crooked ones allowed.

You see, and I'm not sure I should tell you this, but...I'm thinking some of these "Words for the Week", are meant more for me than anyone. Maybe just saying, "get it done", "simplify" and now these five words, helps me to strive to do better in these areas. I have been getting lots done, and talk about making things a bit more simple around here....I just thought, what the heck, I'm gonna try it with this "not sweating the small stuff", can't hurt right? I just want to be up front on this one and tell you that I am surely not the one to be preaching such a sermon as this, because I sweat everything!!

I'm going to try, but I'm not going to promise...I would love to be able to just "let it go", but "sweating the small stuff, big stuff and everything in between", is just who I am,

and what a dull world it would be if we were all the same!

I'm just going to hope that there are at least a handful of you out there who will let me know that you're with me on this and I won't we working on it all alone! I would love to hear your thoughts on it all.

On a totally different note I just want to let you all know to mark your calendars for

March 15, 16 & 17 for our reopening in the Barn with,

"Springtime at the Farm"

10am - 5pm all three days

Lots of great new stuff arriving from my Market trip and lots of great "new" old stuff up for the offering as well....you remember the "simplify"? Lots of great things making there way from the house here at Saltbox right out to the Barn....who on earth needs 90+ crocks? Quilts? Wooden ware....and much more! I will be posting a few pics of some of the items in an upcoming post so keep watch.

Can't wait to show you all I've found. Bringing some of it along home with me in my extra suitcase and then more will begin to arrive very soon, maybe even before I make it back!

Lots to write about and lots to share....

Some fun days in March are certainly coming to the Farm....and then Summer...and Fall...Christmas, oh my gosh, wait until you see it all. And did I mention that probably 75% of items purchased for the Barn are proudly "MADE IN THE USA"....we are proud to say!!

I will have event dates ready to share with you upon my return and a few pictures to tease you with!

Leaving on a jet plane....

don't know when I'll be back again. Oh wait....I'll be back on Wednesday, I got carried away with the words of an old song!

Where am I off to? Market Square in Oaks, PA....leaving early Saturday, so as many of you read this I will hopefully be safely landed and transported to my hotel where I will meet up with fellow shopkeeper friends

Addie and Cherry. I am a bit excited to say the least.

The hunt for new and unique items for the Barn will start early on Sunday and continue through Tuesday.

Sunday brings the Cash & Carry, which truthfully, really isn't my cup of tea. I just can't get excited over

the pushing, shoving, grabbing.... almost desperate kind of shopping it requires. It is a bit fun to watch though!

There will be some booths though that I might be forced to join in the melee to get some of the great one of a kinds....hey, a Girls gotta do what a Girls gotta do!

After the C&C we will continue on to order writing, a much more laid back, leisurely type of shopping but still some vendors that you just have the urge to run to get to first. I can't wait!

Wayne and the Girls will be staying behind to tend to things here at the Farm, and yes, I have left a fairly short

"to do list" for them...well Wayne anyway. The Girls will assist by keeping him company.

Stay tuned for the news of the new and unique and of stories to tell, I'm sure.

Leaving a legacy....

A wonderful man was laid to rest today.....husband to Maxine, father to Shelly, Kelly, Tammy, Julie & Jenny

Grandpa to Nick, Justin, Andrew, Rashelle, Lauren, Nathan, Trevor, Emma, Averi & Ashlyn

Brother, Father in Law, Uncle....and Friend.

A hard worker, honest, kind and loyal. A man who not only talked the talk, but walked the walk.

He never met a stranger, most always a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his lips.....

he will be missed by all who knew him.

I write this of Curtis, as I'm sure many of you know, he is the father of our daughter in law Tammy, the Grandpa to our sweet Trevor and Emma, dad in law to our Chad.....our Friend.....

making these past few weeks a struggle.

I realize even more, that when your children hurt, you hurt even harder for them. When it's a hurt that you can't heal it leaves you with such a helpless feeling.

Time will sooth the loss, the wonderful memories made with Curt will always be....he will always remain in the hearts of all of those he touched.

He has left a wonderful legacy....

I can only hope to leave that much love in my wake.

In the words of my sweet Emma...."We love you Curtis, way up in the Sky.

My apologies, and more....

well...where do I start. It seems I am owing some apologies to many. A few weeks ago I sent out an email to my Outlook Mailing List, a list built over the past several years, asking everyone on it who would like to continue getting the email updates to please go to either our Blog or website and "subscribe". My reasoning on this was to help me in my goal to simplify a bit, get more organized, consolidate the mailings....hoping that in the end I could do a better job of updating and keeping in touch.

My lesson...nothing is ever simple when it comes to relying on the competence of computers and all they offer!

So to those of you who have tried to subscribe and got the "please wait" message that wouldn't go away....I think I just might have that fixed and have manually added the ones submitted to my "Contacts" button....bringing me to the second issue, and biggest apology. I just today realized that my site hasn't been sending me the notifications promised, to let me know when I have a Contact message...while changing some things on the site I happened upon nearly 100 messages that I never received.

Please accept my "I'm so sorry"....I truly didn't ignore any of these notes, I didn't know they were there!

I'll admit when I got so many, many (500+) notes after the fire and then nearly as many over the

theft incidence at the home tour....I just wasn't able to answer each one and tried to convey my thanks and appreciation for everyones concern via the Blog or my direct emails, but finding these extra notes that I was totally unaware of.....lets just say that I'm not real sure it pays to try and simplify!! And then I will add, I shall not be defeated...I plan to GET IT DONE and SIMPLIFY. Stupid computers.

Words for the week.....

BECAUSE NICE MATTERS

these three words stitched in sampler form are my best seller, or I should say have been in the past. I have three aged pieces of osnaburg ready now to stitch up to be for sale soon. Remembering the people who purchased this saying.....Mom and GrandMom of course, friends for friends or as a gift to someone who did them a kind deed, but the ones most remembered are the Teachers. I would have to say the greatest percentage of

these went out the door with the people who teach our children. Now I don't know about you, but that

gives me such a great feeling to have the confirmation that it isn't just reading, writing and arithmetic that's being taught in our school systems. Of course the teachings of the former are what we expect and also the goal of our educators but with the meanness and bullying that we see so widespread in our school systems, it is reassuring to me to see that they are conveying the message that NICE does MATTER.
Mean people are at the top of my "Do Not Like" list. Some are mean day in and day out, others are mean at random, and then there are the ones that are sneaky mean, they are nice (or pretend to be) most of the time and then they pull mean things on people, sometimes planning it knowing all along they'll get away with it because, after all, everyone knows how nice they really are and they surely wouldn't plan a thing like that and it wasn't at all the way it seemed....well you know the type. I almost think the latter to be the worst of the lot, and even more sad is the fact that many of them are adults who most likely were taught better as children.
So, my words for the week....Because Nice Matters
are to remind us all that no matter what our age being nice to others and taking consideration of their feelings
really does matter.
Most won't remember what you were wearing or how your hair looked, what you were driving or if you carried a designer purse....what they will remember and take with them is....
how you made them feel.....
Because Nice Matters.

Taking heed....

Just wanted you all to know that I have been doing just that, taking heed, of my words of the week and thought you might like to see and hear of a few things I've accomplished!

The penny rug mat started......and

finished!

Then the pillows, four of the five that I've finished to be offered in the Barn in March.

I've also finished the chore on my list of cleaning and organizing my kitchen cupboards...well, one side of the kitchen is done and I am now motivated to finish as it looks so good!

I spent the morning cooking....yes, the entire morning. I am feeding the Varsity Boys Basketball team tomorrow before their game. No grandson playing this year as he's moved on to attending college but his Dad is the coach and they're still my boys, so....feed the small army I will!

It's finished and ready to hit the ovens tomorrow in time for their arrival. On the menu...

Chicken Mac & Cheese, Bread Sticks....Milk by the gallon and of course,

Snickers and a Gatorade to go!

I hope many of you are busy "getting it done" this week....thank you for the many nice notes and emails. It's nice to know many of you do enjoy the Blog...be it business or nonsense!

I so hesitate to post all this as I know how I just despise reading some FB posting where people come on to tell you all they've done, all they're going to do, all they might do, all they're thinking about doing.....singing their own praises, so to speak. Not at all my intention here....just want to send out a bit of inspiration hopefully and it really helps to get me going!

Now, enough of the nonsense...I have things to get done!

Not to mention ponder a word or words for next week!

word of the day, my three words, etc.

I've been thinking...I know that's probably a bit of a scary thought for some of you, but....I have.

Having good intentions of posting here more regularly this year I am finding it a challenge to do so. While in my thinking mode, and yes, admittedly while watching GMA this morning, the thought came to me that I might start the week out with my very own "Weekly Words". Some of you are probably frowning, and scratching your head, thinking "what does this have to do with business at SBF?" But you see, that's just it, my Blog "Saltbox Farm" isn't about the business, not strictly anyway.

Once upon a time, not very long ago, our 40 acre homestead (technically 37 as the Eldest now has the corner 3) was home to a quaint little shop aptly named, Saltbox Farm LLC. Then one warm windy day this past May, along came a nasty fire and in the span of an hour or so wiped out the 11 years of a dream. Since then we have moved ahead, changing direction a bit. We now have a much smaller shop, still just as quaint, still here at Saltbox Farm, housed in the front half of our Barn. More of a "spattering" of hours as opposed to regular ones, still always here (for the most part) if you need us, but to get to the moral of this story....

Saltbox Farm isn't just a business, it's where we live and yes, work...it's also where our grandchildren have played in the fields and woods, the mud puddles and the snow and grown up. It's who we are.

If your interest lies in just the "business" part of SBF, we do keep our website at www.saltboxfarm.com for you to visit and there's not much "wordy" stuff going on there. You are able to subscribe to email updates from the website as well, so you won't miss any thing going on here business wise. If you like getting my more "wordy" notes, or more book like thoughts such as this post, then you've subscribed rightly here on our Blog!

If you're one that would rather not read about the day to day happenings in our life here at the Farm, it's easy to unsubscribe...and I promise when you do, it won't hurt my feelings, well maybe a little, but....I'll understand, well for the most part!

Godfrey, did I get off course on this post or what? And now that the "warning" has been given that you will most likely be hearing a bit more from us here....my Words.

Sometimes they may be "empty words" to you, and I'm sure you won't want to quote me "word for word", you can however, always "take me at my word" and rest assured more often than not, I will get the "last word"!

Snowing in Michigan......

*~* FINALLY *~*

Isn't it beautiful? These were taken from the french door to the back of the property....with my cell phone, explaining the less than perfect pictures!

Lots of area schools closed here today so the kids got a "back to bed" day for the first time this year, rather unusual this late in the season.

I know many of you are cringing at the thought of the snow arriving (TILDA) and I do the same when it's required that I drive somewhere, behind the wheel of something other than the sixwheeler or the tractor of course...and I do fret about all my loved ones out on these roads. Still, I love the seasons that living in Michigan brings us, the snowy one included...I can't imagine wanting to live somewhere else, even for a few months. I plan to enjoy the day by watching the snow fall...and blow across the fields, I will finish shoveling the walks to keep up with that part. The JD won't be brought out until the storm quiets, and then we'll clean up the drives and such....in the meantime, I have some great books to read, one to write and lots of creating to do.

Let's see, a big pot of soup on the stove and some homemade bread might be on the agenda as well.....

and a fresh pot of coffee is most always on, welcoming family and friends. Hot cocoa can of course be substituted!

Gone, all gone.....

Christmas in the Barn. Well maybe I can't quite consider it all totally gone...there are remnants of glitter and glitz everywhere (no, I don't do glitter and glitz, but for some reason....), a smattering of lonely rose hips and one beautiful swamp holly berry wreath that I couldn't part with just yet. The rest...inventoried and packed away, what little was left....and that's a good thing!

We had a couple of bumps in the road here at the Farm in 2011, one that was almost a mountain. We road the bumps, climbed that mountain and it appears from recent assessment that we're standing at the top shouting,

"HIP HIP HOORAY" for another great year!

Thank you all for helping us along the way......oh, and I'm not sure if you've heard or not, but....it's going around that things are going to get a little "mad" around here a few days in March. I'll be sure to update you on that when I know more.

yes, we have found more missing. We have also reviewed all of our tapes and we do know who you are. All we ask is that you please return the items and we will not take further action, nor will we reveal your name.

I am so hoping that my friends, customers and followers are not seeing me as some crazy woman who is ranting away on her blog. I am just sick about this entire incident....how could someone violate us like this.

We open our home to you, we benefit a young girl losing her battle with cancer...yes, the business in the Barn is brisk as well but that surely isn't our reason for the event. There are other more selfish ways to market the business, where only we would benefit, not many others.

Please return the items.....all of them, so that we will not be forced to take further action.

Just saying "thank you"....

so much, to the many (nearly 100 at last count) who have taken the time to leave a comment, send an email or ring me up on the phone regarding my most recent post regarding the theft during our home tour.

After my discovery yesterday I will have to admit that I was more than just a bit disheartened with it all. Your overwhelming support has given me cause to stay the course....I refuse to let someone of this character steal the joy of what I do brings to me, as well as to many of you.

The missing candle and booklight, revisited.....

I had made the decision to let this go.....a labored decision, but felt it best to let it lie. The fact that someone had actually stolen and item from our home. Something of little value but still....not theirs for the taking. Even knowing who the thief was, I still thought it best to leave it. That is, until just awhile ago....when I discovered yet another item missing from this same room. An item that carried meaning with it, something very personal to me. A beautiful handmade tiny doll, dressed in mustard fabric with wonderful detailing throughout....it is gone as well.

Unfortunately, we will now find the need to review all of the tapes of that day.....looking for something that was never our intention when we decided to tape the event. In past tours we have found joy in reviewing the tapes while listening to peoples comments and watching their reactions to our home....a place we love and cherish, a private place that we opened to you in hopes of bringing you a bit of the joy it brings us. Never intending to catch a thief....but that we did.

I will request that the person who found it necessary to help themselves to personal items from our home, please, pack them up....mail them back, drop them off on our doorstep. We will wait ten days and if these items are recovered, no further action will be taken. If my belongings are returned, I will again...let this go. If not.....in the words of my sweet Emma....."it ain't gonna be pretty".

So sad that one person can ruin what we thought was such a nice gesture, for everyone else.

We shall now rethink what the new year has to offer from Saltbox Farm.

Saying goodbye......

Allison Jo Pyle passed away on Monday the 26th after a courageous four year battle with cancer. She was laid to rest yesterday...the battle was lost but Allison was a true winner in a life that was cut way to short for such a beautiful little girl.

It was requested by her family that those in attendance at the funeral wear pink or purple to honor Allison, who gave new meaning to the phrase "fight like a Girl".....a Princess who wanted to be a CowGirl!

I want to once again say "thank you" to all of those who showed their kind hearts and generosity in donating to our benefit for Ally and her family. They were truly overwhelmed by the kindness and concern showed to them by so many.....and many of them total strangers. I am actually still receiving donations by mail and at last count we have been able to give the family over $900. I am so blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life to give of themselves without question.

A miracle wasn't to be for Allison and as hard as it is sometimes, it is not for us to question God's Plan.

I am wishing now that Ally is riding horses, playing volleyball and fishing with the Angels.....

One more Angel to believe in.

We have our Christmas Clearance going on and will be in the Barn today, Dec 23 from 10:30 - 4:00. Still some great items left but they are thinning out quickly! Most will be discounted today 50% plus!

We don't want to bring the same old stuff out next year so we're working on moving it out the door to make room for all new Christmas in 2012. Stop in and help us out here!!

Allison, door prize winners and a bit more....

I'm sure many of you have been anxiously awaiting the news of last weeks Holiday Home Tour, so finally the news! At days end last Saturday not only were Karen of Maple Hill School House and I a bit tired, we both had a very busy schedule in the week that followed. That making yesterday our first chance to get together to draw for the prizes and such.

To start though I report, with a very grateful heart, that we were able to raise $800.00 for Allison and her family!

That was definitely the best news of the days activities. We received donations from all across Michigan as well as from North Carolina, Nevada, West Virginia....and more! Once again, thank you all for opening your hearts to give to Allison....who I might report is doing as well as can be expected and looking forward to Christmas.

Please keep her and the family in your prayers.

Now.....the winners!

to shop the Barn here at Saltbox Farm before Christmas! Seems at one point or another I looked ahead and thought I would never make it through this season, and now, looking back....I wonder where it went!

I was able to take a few minutes out of a very busy day yesterday to step out to the Barn and survey the remaining goods after the wild shopping day on Saturday, and....we still have some great holiday items in stock as well as some great everyday gift items to give, or keep for yourself! The BarnGirls did a fine job of keeping things filled in and displayed and with only a bit of minor tweaking on my part (you knew I wouldn't be able to refrain from that) it all looks ready to be shopped again!

I've decided on a bit of a sale....this week all Holiday items will be 20% off, plus you can earn BarnBucks to spend on the 22nd & 23rd.....when the sales will be even better!

Hours for this week are Friday & Saturday 11am-4pm, but always remember to give us a call if you need us to open at a different time for you, we'll be more than happy to do so!

A simply wonderful day....

is what we experienced here at the Farm yesterday. Lots of smiling faces, eager shoppers and many giving hearts. The visitors come from near and far....mostly far, very few local people attend our events or shop here at SBF. Me, I try to shop and give my business locally whenever I can!

My good friend Tilda aka Patricia Byers made the trek down from near Cadillac to help me start my day. She snapped pictures around the house as I finished readying myself for the day....my hair, as usual, was not cooperating...curly and red could be the problem! We finished and took a brief few minutes to enjoy a cup of coffee together before heading to the Barn for a quick lesson for Tilda on the cash register. She did a great job, as did Cindy and Cammy....she ran, ran, ran, all the while restocking, bagging, and giving great customer service. Another good friend Nancy helped by assisting me in the house. Let me say, I could never offer up all the events without the help of all of these gals....along with a few that weren't able to be here for this weekend, my family and most especially my wonderful husband Wayne. Thank you all.

Another thank you goes out to Randy and Karen Hendricks. They call the former Maple Hill School House home and were ever so kind to agree to join us this year by opening up their wonderful home to the onlookers as well. I will be visiting with Karen sometime this week and plan to take some pictures of her home as well as a few more of ours. I will let you know when that album is open and ready for sharing.

One more thank you goes out to all of those who have so kindly opened their hearts up to Allison and her family. Many of you, some that I have never met...just friends via the internet, took the time and generosity to send donations via my Paypal. Some friends from afar that couldn't attend the doings on Saturday have donated through Paypal or sent along a card with a donation tucked inside. All the people on the tour who tucked their donations into the candlebox.....all of you without question. May each and every one of you be blessed for your kindness.

I am told that Allison has good days and bad days. We still might pray a miracle to happen.

A big box from 1803 Candle arrived yesterday, as I've been telling you all they would. I truly thought I had over ordered the great Christmas scents from them but I can say with a smile....we sold out! Not to fret though as Darryl and Debbi were quick to fill the reorder.....not just the best candle product on the market, wonderful people to work with as well!

We also have our newly printed gift certificates in for purchase and lots of great handmade offerings!

"Christmas....Country Style"

Our holiday home tour is scheduled for Saturday, December 10, 10am ~ 4pm.

This year, in addition to touring our home here at the Farm, we are excited to tell you of another home added to the tour....the former Maple Hill School House, built in 1872 and steeped in history!

Much more on that in a future post, but for now a bit more info regarding the tour this year.

Over the years of opening our home at the holidays, we have run the gamut of your purchasing a ticket, good will donations and donation of a non perishable food item. All proceeds always going to a charitable organization and people in need.

This year we have a very special little girl and her family who we would like to bless.

A bit of history on our Girl, Allison Pyle, and her specialness.

Allison is 7 years old and a student at MacNaughton Elementary School here in Howard City.

She resides outside of Howard City with her parents Dave and Joann (Boss) Pyle and her big sister Zoe, who is a 5th grader. Allison loves the outdoors, riding horses, playing soccer, playing cards, board games and "hot tubbin". She is also a Girl Scout.

Sounds pretty normal....and she is, of course, but Allison and her family, over the past three years have been dealt a card making their life beyond the norm...a card you don't want to see anyone dealt, let alone a sweet and innocent young girl such as Allison.

You see, in 2008, Allison was diagnosed with a very rare form of renal cell carcinoma cancer. This form of cancer is generally found in adults and there have been only 11 known cases diagnosed in children since 1965. Since Allison's diagnosis, she has gone through numerous surgeries, continuous chemotherapy treatment, as well as radiation therapy. Allison and her family, most recently received the news that her cancer has reached stage 4/end stage cancer prognosis.

I think you'll now see one of the reasons Allison is so special. Special isn't always a good thing, we sometimes find, but many of us know how very special Allison is all on her own.

All of this is why we'll be asking for a cash donation at the beginning of the tour this year. No set amount, just what you feel you can give. If for some reason you're unable to give, please keep Allison and her family in your thoughts and prayers. It will be appreciated.

It is our sincere prayer, that Allison will stay strong and face this battle to gain time so that she might be able to enjoy the few things your gifts might bring her and the family. If for some reason our prayer isn't granted and Allison loses her battle, it is our hope that the gift received from us will bring her family comfort in some small way.

Allison needs an Angel, or a hundred Angels, or more.....

The decorating has begun.....

and no, I'm not this far yet...this is a pic from last year, and of course things will be different this year!

I do have most of the greens in place...all of the trees in the Greatroom are up and with lights....

and that's pretty much it at this point. I'm hoping by tomorrow night at this time I can say that I'm at least 75% done....and it isn't even December 1 yet!

So much to do in preparation for our home tour on December 10...and this will be our 10th year of opening our home at Christmastime. With this being our tenth year, and quite probably our last home tour, we have added another area home for you to enjoy as well.

An area one room school house, built in the late 1800's, converted to a home approximately 20 years ago.

Much more on all of this to follow...it's going to be a great day, but right now....

there's lots of decking the halls to be done!

Another successful Black Friday Eve.....

We had lots of laughter, some adventure and even a bit of excitement!

The excitement was a bit unnerving for me considering our misfortune in May but....

thanks to Sue's son Adam, it's all good.

to everyone that took the time to attend our "Christmas from the Country" event and making it the huge success that it was! I will have to say that those of you in attendance on Friday fore noon were real troopers...I can't say that I could've stayed the challenge of "shoulder to shoulder" shopping in our somewhat tiny space we have for offerings....but you did, and we thank you.

We also appreciate all the sweet comments regarding our "new digs". We love our new home, but admit it has taken some getting use to and we are still working on that.

Thank you for bearing with us as we adjust to the change.

We sold out of so many items on Friday and we scrambled to bring back the magic for Saturday and for the most part, we think we succeeded....thank you for your understanding.

We have new items that will be offered this week...many handmades and some things that have been on order and are just now arriving.

Although it would be nice to see the same crowds of this past weekend...we're fairly certain that the shopping here in the Barn will be a bit less stifling. Stop by if you get the chance....we'll be here on

It seemed we even had a constant jingling of bells as we prepared it all today!

Heilda's House if filled with wonderful fresh greens and berries in the forms of wreaths, swags & bunches...and it smells wonderful!

I have been fretting a bit about The Barn being so much smaller than our shop and it presented somewhat of a challenge with decking it all out in the more compact area.....but, small it might be but it's every bit as magical, maybe even more so than many much larger shops. The size may require a bit more patience on the part of our shoppers as well and we have every confidence that you'll be having so much fun you won't even mind a bit of a wait or a little crowding1 We'll have fresh coffee and Cindy Lou's homemade sugar cookies to keep you going as well!

So hard to believe that it's that time already....time for CHRISTMAS! Well...it will be here at Saltbox anyway!

Our "Christmas from the Country" Holiday Event is quickly approaching...next Friday and Saturday to be exact.

November 4 & 5

Friday hours will be 10am - 8pm and Saturday 10am - 5pm

We have been busy preparing and have lots more to do but....it will be all decked out for your shopping enjoyment next week at this time, and we can't wait!

I have struggled just a bit with getting things ready this year....the space is much smaller than our old shop and that poses a challenge...it seems that each day I realize something I lost in the fire that I want to use, but...it is what it is and we will make it work.

Home....

after spending nine wonderfully relaxing days at our little "home away from home" in the woods of the beautiful U.P. of Michigan. I went antiquing and was able to take time to read....lots, 8 books to be exact....stitched some primitive stocking ornaments and little pillow tops....antiqued....took some great naps....antiqued.....walked the woods and trails with the Girls (they love it at the Cabin, too)....baked lots of goodies....and did I mention that I went antiquing? It was great. We got home late last night after deciding that even though we would really like to spend just one more night that it would also be nice to get home and have a day to get things back in order before getting back to reality. Needless to say, I'm already planning my next jaunt to the North Woods!

I will try and share a few pictures with you when I get them from the camera to the computer....it is very "woodsy", no phones, no computer....peace and quiet....truly God's Country, as my Dad always said.

Now a very busy two weeks ahead as I have preparations this week for some special visitors coming this Friday and Saturday...and then, believe it or not...it's time to get The Barn ready for our

Less than perfect....

that's what last night was to me! I didn't realize how ill prepared I was until I got this ready this morning for the Harvest Luncheon today....the things I forgot!! Maybe I shouldn't have tried to get those 11 or so packages shipped yesterday morning beforehand...or call all those special orders in. Lesson learned.

But.....Marge, Julie, Coleen, Beth, Bonnie, Char, Doris and Nancy should not have to suffer for my shortcomings, so....I apologize ladies and I will be inviting you to be my guests for a Candlelight Christmas Tea sometime in December....a special night just for you....from me, hoping you'll accept my invite!

Now....I am prepared for today! The table is set, I have the soup tureen that I forgot last night...along with the cream and sugar server...and lets see, the little guest soaps, the name cards....oh dear!! I guess you gals last night got a good old Farm kitchen type treatment!! Won't go any further but....I even have my camera ready today!

Thank you to all who have written or commented with your concerns for Wayne and Trevor. Trevor has learned a valuable young drivers lesson and Wayne is a lucky man who knows he is much loved and healing well. I can't believe the improvement from day to day.

Enough is enough...

I know, we're not given any more than we can handle....but, not sure my handling is what it use to be!

The fire in May definitely tested my strength.....then my Grandson Trevor had an accident, no one was hurt but it totaled his Jeep, really makes you think. Many of you know that my husband Wayne, works in the oil fields....Wednesday he was injured with a flash fire on a tank he was working on. He has severe first degree burns on his face and a few areas of second degree, his left arm suffered severe second degree burn. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and treated and has revisited the ER as well as the Doc again this morning. The challenge are the facial burns as they can't be wrapped and the chance of an infection is a bit greater, but....he is doing well now and this too, really made me think! I'm hoping that within a few weeks he will be healed for the most part and keeping my fingers crossed that we aren't dealt another mishap of any sort!!

All that said....and I feel better after saying it all...that will explain to you just where I've been for the past week!

I am now busy getting things ready for our Harvest Dinner tomorrow evening and the Harvest Luncheon to follow on Wednesday. We have tables full and it promises to be a fun and relaxing time for all.

Then....we are off to the Cabin for a much needed get away come Friday. The Girls are going along as well and Trevor will be staying here at the Farm to hold things together (nice to have a Grandson who is old enough and trustworthy to do that for us!) When we return I will dive into getting everything ready to go for our "Christmas from the Country" event on November 4 & 5....Christmas, already!!!

"Tis the Season", one of the books I just told you of has already sold out!

I am planning to try and get another shipment so if any of you really want one, please let us know so we can know just how many we'll need. Wouldn't want any disappointments at not getting this great Christmas publication. Also, only a few of the "Simple Cooking" left as well! It's been a great few weeks for books and magazines here.....we sold out of about six different publications at the Market!

Must be everyone has thoughts of doing some "nesting" with a good book or mag!

we had BLUE SKIES AND SUNSHINE for the entire day!!

The Harvest Market here at the Farm was wonderful and a great way to restart things here after the fire.

The shoppers were many, sales were brisk and faces were smiling!

Thank you to everyone that took part in our day here at Saltbox.

I plan to spend some time today putting together a photo album to share with you of the days festivities and I will post when it's ready for viewing.

At days end, we had happy shoppers, very satisfied vendors, many spaces to be refilled in The Barn and

one very tired, fulfilled and happy Shopkeeper and her Crew!

yes, one picture. I know I promised pictures, and I did get several taken but this is the one I got edited and uploaded so here it is!

This is one of the displays in front of Heilda's House....a very large wooden trencher filled with HUGE newly cut sunflower heads, a great fall primitive decor. We also have lots fresh cut bittersweet bunches, mum, pumpkins, gourds and broom corn.

The vendors are all set up and, oh my gosh, the wonderful selection of antique and primitive wares..I could hardly contain myself!! The Barn is ready, our 2011 calendars and new note cards were delivered tonight, our picture order came in today, new fall potpourri, lots of hand stitched pillows, fall wreaths...too much to tell! You'll have to come see!

A good day....

well, not just a good day it was a really great day here at the Farm.

Actually, when I think about it, considering all that's happened with us here since the loss of the shop to the fire in May....we have still had lots of great days.

I think of the day that Nancy and Fred stopped in with their charming daughter in law from, I'm thinking, Korea. She had a beautiful name that unfortunately escapes me now....but the memory of her concern over the fire, her sweet smile and her gift of a little frog she had purchased for herself to me to sit beside our pond. It was our first time to meet, and I will always remember...it was a great day.

The day Kay stopped in with loaves of homemade bread, fresh garden tomatoes and peppers. We were working in The Barn, it was a mess...Kay stayed the afternoon and worked along beside us. We had fresh home made bread with butter and coffee for our lunch. It seemed gourmet, a memory...it was a great day.

Today. An early start for me as I had so much to do. Realizing I wasn't on schedule I shot Tammy a text to see if she could stop at the grocery and pick up some lunch items for us...the answer, "no problem", of course. Then a call from Tilda....she was on her way, would arrive in about an hour, her truck loaded with fresh cut bittersweet, sun dried sweet corn, tubs of wonderful old wool for my Santa's and of course, camera in hand. Cammy was next, and I had an awful task for her...tidying up Wayne's workshop and I can't even begin to describe what an undertaking this was. No hesitation though, just a "sure, be there in a bit". Then Karen, this afternoon...bringing by the stitching she had so kindly offered to help me out with as well as a fresh from the oven Apple Crisp. She thought we might need a treat. I can't, of course forget to mention two of the favorite men in my life...Trevor aka LB, he toted me to get the Girls from their grooming, hauled things hither and yon, mowed parts of the field for parking. Hugged his Gma and told me he could be here to help me with whatever I needed before Saturday. And Wayne...the man who would try to hook me the moon if I asked, need I say more? Today was a really great day.

I'm sure many of you remember me writing of the loss of the shop and how it wasn't "just a building" to me. Giving thought to all of the above mentioned people...and to all of those who have reached out in friendship and caring over these past months...so many that I could write a book of them all. My thoughts have changed somewhat...it really was "just a building", not just any building but still, just a building. It broke my heart to lose it and all that went along with it but I now realize that I didn't lose the most important things that building gave to me....not just things but wonderful memories and so many wonderful people to love.

Tammy told me the day of the fire, "God has a plan". I see the plan Lord and I thank you.

"HARVEST MARKET 2011"!!

Not quite ready for it all but we're awfully close. It rained most of the day today so I wasn't able to tackle the out of doors jobs, sunshine tomorrow so that will be good!

Finished up some things in The Barn today, unpacked some new shipments and even tried out the new fireplace!

My friend Tilda is heading down tomorrow to bring some supplies and lend her hand in getting things ready in Heilda's House. I'm thinking by days end things could be just about ready for Saturday!!

Oh and just a note, for those of you who may have caught our ad in the new FOLK magazine....the date of September 4th was a misprint....it really is the 24th. Didn't want to scare you and have you think you'd miss our big affair...something you just don't want to do!!

A great new magazine and we will have them here for you Saturday at the Harvest Market!

I've only had a few minutes to thumb through it and just from the sneak peek I took....I can't wait to kick back and dive in to every page! I did make sure I found the page with our ad on it though....yes, we have a half page full color ad telling of the "Harvest Market". "The Barn" at Saltbox Farm advertised in a national magazine, how cool is that!! Exciting for us, that's for sure!

I spent most of the day today working on getting it all together in The Barn and it's really starting to look like something! I can't wait for you all to see it. And Heilda's House...the finishing touches will be added tomorrow and then the furnishings can be moved in. Tilda is heading down on Tuesday to lend a helping hand with it and I am ever so thankful for that! Not only will it be a fun filled day but I know I can just turn her loose with the antiques in there and say "do your thing". You have no idea what a help that is going to be!

Trevor and I went and picked up Mums yesterday and there will be pumpkins and gourds and the like picked up early in the week. It's going to be a great opening of everything new here at

Saltbox Farm.....join us for the fun!

Oh Goodness!

I've been so busy here since we returned from our little respite at the Cabin in the U.P. that I didn't realize it had been so long since I'd checked in with all of you here! Bet you thought I'd decided not to come home....

come to think of it, the thought did enter my mind! It is so beautiful up there, so many great antiquing destinations close by, the phones only work when we want them to..... but,

all the kids aren't there, nor the rest of the family so we all know that just wouldn't do.

Not to mention that I'd miss all of you as well!

Anyway, I'm home and I've been so, so busy! The Barn is just about ready for the big reveal as well as

Heilda's House. We still have much to do before next Saturday, gosh, can't believe it's just a bit over a week away before it's time for our

"HARVEST MARKET 2011"

and we really do have so much to do!

"The Barn"

Well, there is progress here at the Farm on our Barn project.....it has all it's new windows, a new door, insulation, wall and ceiling board are in place and......it got it's primer and first coat of paint today!

I keep trying to envision what it will look like with cupboards and tables and florals and all the goodes that have been gathering in the garage for the past month. All the while the thought that it just won't be the

shop that I so loved creeping into those visions. I try my best to shut out those thoughts and continue with the thoughts of the change and what new doors it just might open for me.

It looks as if we will be starting to get things together inside right after the holiday and gosh, do we ever have a huge task ahead of us in order to be ready for our big day on September 24! Just a bit over two weeks to put an entire new beginning together to look like something. We are up for the challenge...

our Saltbox Farm calendar is in the works and we are now taking orders on them for delivery at the Harvest Market. The calendar price this year will be $14 but any one ordering and prepaying will receive the price of $12. We are thinking this will give us a better handle on how many we'll be needing, as last year we underestimated and had to go back to print several times!

Some dates to remember....

Today I took some time to sit down and go over the calendar for the remainder of this year....

where have the months gone? Of course the days and weeks since the fire in May have for the most part had me in a constant state of one kind of frustration or another but today....I am moving on!

I got busy and added all of our special days scheduled for here at the Farm to our website calendar at

Just click on the "Farm Happenings" link and page through the months to see what all we have lined up for the rest of 2011! We think you'll like what we've got coming your way!

I've also decided upon a couple of fun days in October, the 11th and 12th to be exact. On Tuesday the 11th we will be hosting a "Harvest Time Dinner" in our home here at Saltbox, with dessert in Hilda's House, weather permitting. The evening will include a light dinner fare, pleasant relaxing conversation with friends, old and new....if the night is clear and mild, a walk around the Farm.....discounted shopping in The Barn, dessert and a small gift from me to you! We will start the festivities at 5pm, with dinner at 6. Hopefully giving the ones who work daytimes some time to be able to work it into their schedule.

The 12th will be much the same as the 11th with the exception of the time, it will be our "Harvest Time Luncheon", starting at 11am with lunch at noon.

These days will be filled on a first come first served basis, as space will be limited. The cost of each day will be $39.00 per person.....and we promise more than your monies worth of fun, food and friendship! (and some really great deals in The Barn!!)

There will be a $2 admission fee with all proceeds going to the Tri County High School Boys Basketball Program with team members, coaches and parents helping with parking, carrying of packages etc.

This will be our first "official" day of being open since the fire...although we've had a couple of make shift, garage sale type Barn openings. We will have all new offerings, lots of great antique smalls, your favorite fall candles and melts, soaps, textiles and well....I think you get the picture!

I must say that I have had a mixed bag of feelings over all of this. Our shop is gone....and even if we had chosen to rebuild it....it just wouldn't be the same. One of the reasons we decided to take the direction of the Barn redo. I have struggled to be excited over all of the new....I loved the old, I didn't want new. Things changed a bit after talking to a friend a few days ago....Theresa, our maker of beautiful pottery. Theresa is fighting a battle of pancreatic cancer....she is so positive, so upbeat. She recently found out that she will be blessed with her first grandchild.....so much to live for and she is determined.

Theresa comforted me for my loss....and made me realize how much I have to be thankful for, how blessed I am. She started a flicker of excitement in me over the changes coming to Saltbox Farm. Not changes of choice but forced changes. Theresa helped me to halt the pity party and rejoice in all the wonderful things going on in my life.....thank you sweet Theresa.

Meet Theresa at our "Harvest Market 2011" on Saturday September 24 where she will be offering up her wonderful handcrafted pottery....yes, she continues to create as she fights a big battle. She is taking the change that has been forced into her life and fighting it head on. She has made me look at my forced change from an entirely different view.

Mae Marie.....

Mae joined us on August 5, weighing 7 lb 1 oz and 18.5 long making our Grandchildren count rise to fourteen! They range in age from Trevor who is 18 down to Mae Marie.

Just thought I'd take a minute to share with you the "load" of Susan's I pulled out....and then some of what still remains. I wasn't kidding when I said they had multiplied!

I spent most of my day tending the gardens and the lawn....

I also painted old tin ceiling tiles to be installed at the Cabin and finished clearing out the Barn for the redo.

I got so involved in all my tasks that I forget to cut some of those flowers for bouquets....tomorrow.

Brown Eyed Susan's....

One of my favorite flowers....and I have an over abundance of them this year but they're still beautiful.

I really need to take some time to thin them out just a bit and share them with friends to enjoy in their gardens and I have plans to do just that very soon.

I have been busy since the Barn Sale, which by the way, was a huge success...thank you everyone who attended and helped me to get things cleared out for the redo in the Barn. The preparation for that redo has been keeping me very busy but I think I have it just about ready for the arrival of the carpenters and I'm excited to get things under way. They should be starting the first of next week and promise to be finished by the end of the month...giving me just enough time to get things done for the Harvest Market on September 24!

We've also been a bit busier than the norm with traveling up to the U.P. to work on our cabin. Things have been in the making up there for over a year now and it's all coming together. We plan a couple more trips up before Labor Day and I think by then I might have it just the way I want it...or pretty darn close!

I'll share some pictures of our little Upper Michigan Paradise with you soon..... I'll also share a few stories of some adventures I've had in our little community of Blaney Park, you're sure to enjoy.

We have kids and family coming to visit from Wisconsin this weekend so it will be another busy one here....

A Team....

and a very good one at that! This fine group of young men arrived early this morning here at the Farm prepared to help with whatever it was I needed to have done...and that they did!

Bricks and blocks were loaded, unloaded and neatly stacked. The messy remains in the grasses around the former shop were raked up and toted away. Bark was forked into the six wheeler, weeds were pulled and the bark was spread in their place. The parking area for Saturday as well as the Dealers spots were mowed and readied. A tent was erected and a truck and trailer unloaded. Piles of primitives waiting to be placed around the Potting Shedd were carried and stacked awaiting me to display....

It was hot, not much of a breeze and all of the above and more was accomplished without the least hesitation, lots of smiles, continuous chatter and joshing with one another.

As a bit of a thank you, I fed them....hotdogs, chips, Gatorade, and of course, as always....Snickers! They thanked me as if I had fed them a royal meal, not just once but several times...not just one of them but all of them.

This fine group of young men and their leader made my day today.....they brought smiles to my face and to my heart. Their parents should be very proud of them....I know I am.

Gotta love 'em!

They will be here again on Saturday, assisting with parking and packages and whatever else anyone might need. There will be a gate fee for the day of $1, with all proceeds going to this groups Basketball Program. The least I can do for the joy they give.....

Fireflies!

Once or most often twice a day the Girls and I take our walk through the woods on our path that we've created and try to add a bit to it each year. Walking the woods is a favorite activity for both Sophie and Grace....Sophie runs the paths ten times over as Grace plugs along at her older, slower pace but still loving every minute of it.

Our evening walk tonight was a bit later than usual, waiting for it to cool down a bit and I'm so glad we did!

As we left the yards edge and ventured into the wooded area we were greeted with dozens or more little flashing lights, here, there and everywhere....fireflies! Sophie of course tried to catch them, Gracie paid them no nevermind and me, well, I enjoyed the show! I only wish I could've captured it to share with you.

It will be a busy, busy week here for us as we prepare everything around the Farm for our

Summertime Faire. We hope you're all as excited about it as we are! We're looking toward Saturday as somewhat of a new beginning after the fire and we look forward to seeing all of you. Things of course, aren't the same..... the friendships formed over the eleven years in the shop however are, and that's what's important. It sounds like it is going to be a hot one here, maybe we'll have to run through the sprinklers to cool off.....hmmm, sounds like a plan!

here at the Farm! We're busy preparing though....working in the Barn, the Potting Shedd and of course busy grooming all the gardens and the grounds!

A new month and a new focus here on the Farm!

We are putting the tragedy of the fire behind us, well as much as we can, and looking ahead to our

"Summertime Faire" here on July 16!

Still lots to do to get things around and organized in the Barn, Potting Shedd and the gardens but we're making great progress and will be ready when the day arrives.

We have some great country antiques and primitives as well as a few new things mixed in. Also a great vendor line up for the day, promising something for everyone!

We're also back online, as yesterday our internet company came in and changed out all of our old equipment and replaced it with some brand new....working really great now! That means I'll be able to share some pictures of some of the offerings for the Faire with you very soon.....don't forget to mark the date,

is coming to a close! How did that happen so quickly? The month of June in our household has been just a bit of a trial and we are looking at July being much brighter!

Still struggling with the internet connection but I've been promised that by weeks end we should have a solution...one of the few downsides of living in such a rural area. What's cable??

Of course I have to mention my daily strife of dealing with insurance issues, soon I will be telling all. Stay tuned as you all need to be educated in how these companies handle business. There to collect the premiums and so hard to find when a tragedy strikes. I will persevere though and pray I'll be a better person after it all.

Staying busy with rearranging things in the Barn in preparation for our Summertime Faire here at the Farm on Saturday July 16th. I will be posting much more info on that coming up soon with reminders so you won't forget. It is shaping up to be a funfilled day for all. Rain or Shine!

The internet.....

it's a wonderful thing if it's working....if it's not, well I just won't go there.

Ours here at the Farm has been out now for over a week. This will hopefully explain to all of you who have emailed me, or those of you who may be thinking I've committed myself to a nice quiet place where they medicate you, that I'm not ignoring the emails and no, I'm still hanging in there.

I am in hopes that the tech that was here today has worked miracles and that it will be in working order now for a long time. We shall see...time will tell. Oh, and one more thing, the internet is up but my email is not, so....

I can talk to you here but not via email....yet. Don't ask, as I don't know!

We continue to work with the insurance company in regards to our fire, a slow process but it is progressing.

I managed to finish 81 + pages of inventory pricing today, 23 hours spent at the desk. I know now that I don't want to be an accountant.

We are working towards our Summertime Faire scheduled for July 16....

stay tuned for continued updates, that is if the internet remains in working order. If not, just plan to be here on July 16th at 10:30 or sooner......we'll be here along with some really great vendors with some even greater offerings for all!

Moving on.....

The charred remains of the shop have been cleared away, the ground smoothed over with a fresh load of topsoil

spread about. The Outhouse stands as it was, giving me a memory of LouAnn from Nevada as she squealed with delight at the thought of actually getting to experience an "outhouse"....makes me smile.

No decisions have been made so far as to the direction we might be taking with the future of the shop.

We wait yet on action by our insurance company.....funny they don't wait on our premiums.

Yet we have no choices so far so.....we wait.

We are working on getting things ready for our "Summertime Faire" here at the Farm though~

My intention was that I would address each and every thoughtful, caring email, phone message, text message, blog comment, card and kind gesture that we have received in the past week regarding the fire that we suffered here with the shop. Those intentions got pushed to the back burner when after just one day we had received over 100 messages of one sort or another....and then, they kept coming....and coming....and still they come.There are now hundreds, literally hundreds of caring thoughts that have been sent to us. At last count, it was nearing five hundred. We truly had no idea how many people would be touched by our tragedy here at the Farm, nor that they would care enough to convey those feelings to us. Many of you have been in touch every few days....making sure we weren't in need of anything, to lend an ear, some kind advise or a sweet story to take our minds off the matter at hand.

We have moments that we think of having a pity party, sometimes giving in to those briefly. We have other times that it seems unreal that our shop is gone, but unfortunately we are reminded of it each time we drive in or out of the drive, go out a door of the house, head out to the Barn or to get the mail....or just glance out a window.It still remains but in a blackened, charred state of chaos....awaiting the arrival of an expert inventory team and decisions to be made by the Insurance Company. For right now we are in limbo waiting on others. I have filled hours gathering inventory information, supply receipts, trying to remember the antique items I had for display.....so very much to remember and think about. You can't dare miss a thing or you will lose out. Our Insurance Company has assured us that they will take care of us....we are hoping that they are truthful in saying that. Time will tell. I will tell of the final results in a later writing. Until all of that we are moving ahead with what we can.

Mostly this is to say "Thank You", all of you, who have reached out to us in one way or another in the past week or so. Family, friends, co workers, friends of friends.....many of whom we've never met. It means so much to us and has helped to keep us strong. The building and it's contents are, or will be gone soon. The heart, memories and love built there can never be erased. Thank you all for making us know that and for helping us to keep on keepin' on!

There will be more chapters to the story as it unfolds. If you would rather not receive these updates please let us know and we'll kindly remove you from our future mailings.

Just one more little note.....I've been out sprucing up the Barn just a bit, hmmm, wonder what that could mean? Stop in sometime if you're in the neighborhood, we would love to see you.....and the coffee will still be on, just in the house!

Just a building.....

a building filled with "things", things that can be replaced, as can the building.

No one physically hurt and the building and things covered by insurance.

We are so very thankful for all of these things, truly we are.

We are just left to wonder that with all of these things we have to be thankful for, why we feel as if a piece of our hearts has been torn and tattered?

For those of you who haven't heard and wonder what I might be talking about with all of this.....on Sunday evening our shop here at Saltbox Farm was taken by fire, burned to the ground.....a total loss. It now stands as charred black beams, melted shingles, the upstairs fallen to the lower floor....smoke blackened and water logged.

We look at it and ask ourselves, "where do we go from here"? Right now we can't answer that question, for you or for ourselves.

We want to thank all of you who have sent us emails, texts, voice messages and phone calls....for all the prayers, thoughts and words of encouragement.....for the bags of groceries brought as you wanted to make sure we ate....for lending your shoulders for us to cry on, for crying along with us.....for letting us know your understanding of our heartbreak.

I don't think we truly understood how many lives we have touched....memories we've made until reading the one email that said,

"I want you to know you have touched young children like Cael and elderly

women like Jean with your kindness towards them."

We try to share the good news with all of you but once in awhile we are faced with a situation where we have to share with you something that is not news of the good kind. This news has been very heartbreaking to us and we wanted to share it with all of you as we know most of you have a love for Saltbox Farm a bit like we do.

It is with tears and sorrow that I share the news that Saltbox Farm, the shop burned this afternoon. We have been told it's a total loss...we are in shock and right now have no idea what the next step will be.

Actually I guess it will be meeting with our insurance people and taking it from there.

We will try our best to keep you updated as things progress. We ask that you say a prayer for us asking for guidance to help us know the decisions that need to be made.

I do have a couple of pictures I will share....breaks my heart to see it like this.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, and.....

Stevia, Lovage, Margoram, Lemon Balm, Pineapple Sage, and of let's see....

I can't even remember all of the varieties I have and the plants are wonderful!

We still have room for a few more to come build the patio herb baskets on Wednesday the 25th so give us a call and come join in the fun!

The cost for the class is $30 and includes everything you need....container, soil, plants, plant labels, water and a bit of fertilizer to help them grow. Refreshments and snacks will also be served and you'll have private shopping with a 15% discount on your purchases!

Seems Blogger is having a few issues....I have two missing posts, one a reminder of the Home Tour on Saturday (tomorrow) and another announcing the arrival of the newest Simple Life magazine and also the Spirit of Country by Judy Condon.

Our Home Tour!

We'll be opening our home here at Saltbox Farm this Saturday and we'd love to have you stop by!

A few changes in the decor since the last tour and lots of new decorating ideas to share with you.

The shop of course will be open as well with lots of great offerings, many new arrivals and even some great antiques mixed in.

Weather permitting the garden areas will be open as well as the Greenhouse and The Barn Porch!

A wedding....

at the Blue Dress Barn near Benton Harbor, MI is where we spent our Saturday evening past.

The son of a childhood friend of mine, our Mother's, childhood friends as well.

Our families go back generations and are more family than just friends. Both of our Mom's being gone it was an occasion not to be missed by me.....it was very special.

The Barn....an old barn, that's what it was. It was wonderful...open beamed, cement floor. Just the right touch of elegance with the furnishings. Perfect is what it was....as is the sweet young couple that spoke their vows, Craig and Tracy!

We danced the night away in the old Barn....shared good times and good food with old friends.

It doesn't get any better than this.

Congratulations Craig and Tracy and thank you for including us in your special day.

Sunshine and Gardener's Gold....

what more can a Farm Girl ask for?

Looks like just plain ole dirt, huh? Well I've got news for you it's not....it's what I like to call

Gardener's Gold! It's fresh from a neighboring farm here and it's 100% pure and natural, composted cow manure! It is wonderful....no smell, if that's what you're thinking, just the best stuff around for all your planting needs. Just a little will go a long ways....by the pail or by the yard, you've gotta come try it!

Pretty flowers are good for a gals soul too.....

and yes, the cement beeskeps are available here at the Farm in several sizes.
